A small Pennsylvania town is reeling after a horrifying act of violence left a 60-year-old man decapitated at the hands of his own son. In a chilling video posted online, 33-year-old Justin Mohn can be seen holding his father’s severed head while ranting about overthrowing the government.

The 14-minute video, titled “A Call to Arms for American Patriotism,” shows the bloody remains of Michael Mohn wrapped in a plastic bag as his son rants about taking up arms against President Biden and illegal immigration, which he calls “the cancer of this country.”

“My father was a traitor who worked for the federal government for over 20 years,” Mohn says into the camera in a cold, calculated tone. “He is now rotting in hell.”

Mohn declares himself the “commander of the American Militia” and calls for revolution against the “regime” in Washington D.C. The disturbing footage is laced with anti-government conspiracy theories and xenophobic rhetoric.

The grisly murder and video came to light Tuesday night, quickly spreading across the internet before platforms like YouTube and Twitter could remove the copies at the request of authorities. A manhunt was launched for Mohn after police discovered Michael Mohn’s decapitated body in an upstairs room of the home the two shared in Middletown.

“It was one of the most disturbing and sickening crime scenes I’ve encountered in my 25 years on the force,” said Police Chief Joe Bartorilla at a press conference Wednesday morning. “To have a son commit such an act of brutality against his own father is almost too much to comprehend.”

Bartorilla confirmed Mohn had fled the scene in his father’s vehicle but was apprehended nearly 100 miles away, apparently attempting to flee the state. He is currently in custody awaiting criminal charges.

While a motive is still under investigation, the video offers horrifying hints at Mohn’s descent into darkness. He rants about taking up arms against the “Biden regime” and “illegal invaders” in an unhinged diatribe filled with anti-government conspiracy theories and white nationalist rhetoric.

“This is a shocking example of how hateful, extremist ideologies can utterly consume and radicalize someone,” said Karen Piri, director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Cult Research Center. “While we don’t yet know all the details, this appears to be a case where online propaganda and disinformation sources like websites, chat rooms and social media may have distorted his worldview into something unrecognizable and monstrous.”

Mental health experts caution the public from jumping to conclusions about a singular cause, noting a combination of potential factors like mental illness, isolation, and online radicalization may have contributed to Mohn’s break from reality.

As the investigation continues, the town of Middletown is left to mourn and make sense of this unthinkable tragedy. For the loved ones of Michael Mohn, the disturbing video and details of his brutal murder at the hands of his own child will be a waking nightmare never forgotten.
